How is 711 qualified to sell alcohol? Can my convenience store sell alcohol to go?
The Alcohol & Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) recently reported that 61 7-Eleven locations across Ontario have entered the public notice phase for Liquor Sales Licence Applications. Many convenience store owners are puzzled as to how this is allowed and would like to follow suit.
Currently, the AGCO does not licence convenience stores to sell alcohol to go. However, any business establishment can apply for a liquor sales licence provided they have a dine in area for onsite consumption. 711 will not be allowed to sell alcohol to go because the primary purpose of their establishment is not the sale and service of food or liquor for consumption on site. 711 will be required to create a dine in option for customers.
The licensing regulations have not changed. 711 is adapting their business model to tap into the market. If you own a convenience store and would like to offer dine in services don’t hesitate to give us a call. We can complete the application process for you.
